Scratch Tester

Rtec-instruments scratch tester can do several test across nano to micro using same head

  • Sclerometry (scratch) test
  • Scratch adhestion test
  • Indentation test
  • Imaging
  • Scratch Hardness
  • Scratch Adhesion
  • Applications

Scratch hardness test (or sclerometry test) involves producing the scratches on the sample surface The measurements requires to scratch a reference material and the unknown sample at several defined loads. The material hardness value is calculated by comparing scratch load and widths of scratches on both the tested and reference materials.

The sclerometry method has an advantage over indentation for ultra shallow coatings as it has minimal influence of substrate on the coating property.

Scratch adhesion test involves producing the scratches at progressively increasing load on the coated surface The load at which coating fails is noted as adhesion of coating. Subsequent imaging on the coating after the test reveals the coating relapse, elasticity and break down mechanism.
